Healthprofessionals' Health in Europe
EANA MEETING
17-18 May 2013 in Prague
During
the spring-meeting of EANA ( European doctors in free practice ), held in
Prague, on May 17-18, Dr. André
Bolliger, Director of the SWISSpsy INSTITUTE, President of ASPROMEL ( Spanish
Associaton of doctors in free practice ) and Treasurer elect of EANA, exposed
the elements which lead to burnout sindrome in health professionals.
Along
with Vice President and Treasurer of ASPROMEL, Dr. Olga Garcia Gómez, he urged the European forum on solving urgently
the dramatic situation Spanish doctors are going through. As the two doctors
have stated in their papers the untenable situation of doctors in Spain leads
to the highest rate of burnout among health professionals of Europe and to growing
emigration of physicians trained in the country, which means a huge economic
loss for Spain. Until today more than
10,000 Spanish doctors have sought better working conditions outside the
country. EANA is aware of the dramatic situation and decided to develop under
the guidance of its new Treasurer an action plan to remedy the untenable
situation in Spain.
During
the Prague meeting EANA also took measures to protect and defend the interests
of physicians in free practice of other member countries of the European
platform. The health of doctors and other health professionals has proved a
matter of highest priority in this time of increasing political and economic
pressure. Healthy societies need healthy health systems with transparent and balanced economic accounts in
which healthy health professionals are the
only guarantee of universal, secure and financially responsable health care, of
quality and of most effective therapy for the patient.
